for those of you who like finding and using the german FG42 (fallschirmjaegergewehr) scoped rifle that is placed on some COD maps, you might enjoy watching this video (in windows media) of a man firing one: FG42! bang! bang!it looks like the felt recoil is quite high, so COD has it right in that regard. end of line.

cool video, seeing that makes me wonder why cod put a scope on it. can you imagine if every one had that in game with say 200 rounds?

cool video, seeing that makes me wonder why cod put a scope on it. can you imagine if every one had that in game with say 200 rounds? at least one night we were playing on the RAD server, i noticed that ALL players automatically spawned with an FG42 (as their second weapon), AND got something like 200 rounds of ammunition to boot.. as for the historical FG42, some had scopes, some didn't. the FG42 occupied a niche role; it was the weight and size of a normal rifle, but was capable of firing on full-auto to give paratroopers greater per-man firepower (since they were dropped into hostile territory without the benefit of tank and artillery support). in that sense, it was a precursor to today's assault rifles and squad automatic weapons. but the FG42 was also an excellent rifle when fired semi-auto; it used the same full-power 7.92x57mm cartridge as the mauser kar98, so it had both excellent range and accuracy. since paratroops often had to get by with less, it made sense to have a scope handy; that way, one soldier could serve as a machine-gunner or a sniper, with the same weapon. FG42s equipped with scopes were also popular with the armies that captured them from the germans; the finns made especially good use of scoped FG42's as sniper rifles. as for COD, i guess they just figured - might as well make the FG42 as distinctive as possible, since it's one of those special weapons you can only find on some maps. if it didn't have the scope, it would just be another select-fire rifle with uncontrollable recoil, like the sturmgewehr or the browning. give it a scope, and you have something potentially special. end of line.
